Caye Caulker!!

Today was our first day in Caye Caulker. It’s so beautiful here. The water is crystal clear and turquoise blue. We met for breakfast at Wish Willy’s at 7 and then headed to the dive shop to pick up our snorkel gear. Then we headed out to a reef a few miles offshore that is part of the Caye Caulker Marine Reserve. We split into a few groups. My group went to snorkel with the tour guide first. He pointed out several species of coral, including brain coral, fan coral, lettuce leaf coral, and fire coral- which we were all careful not to talk. After that, we identified some fish species located inside a transect that the earlier group set earlier. There were so many fish! We saw a variety of angelfish, damselfish, and parrotfish. We also saw some yellow-tail snapper and grouper. After lunch we headed back out to count Queen Conchs located along two transects. The Queen Conch is an endangered species and is eaten here at Caye Caulker. Oh yeah, and we swam with sharks and stingrays at Shark-Ray Alley. It was awesome. After dinner I headed back to the hotel for a HOT shower and bed. Looking forward to tomorrow!
